In Awe of Beauty: Finding Wonder in Everyday Life

All we have to do is look for beauty, and she is there โ all around us at any given moment.
Have you ever stopped to really notice the beauty that surrounds you daily? In our rushed lives, we often miss the countless expressions of beauty that speak to usโsometimes in soft whispers, other times in bold declarations.
Beauty Speaks to All Our Senses
Beauty doesn’t just please our eyes. She seduces all of our senses in countless ways:
- Visual beauty appears in the obviousโlike the striking features of an attractive personโand in the subtle, like the endearing gaze of a shaggy dog with soulful brown eyes
- Natural wonders offer us symphonies of color with each sunrise and sunset
- Raw power reveals itself through storms at sea
- Human connection emerges in the shy smile of a child
- Celebration bursts forth in brilliant flashes of fireworks
Sometimes beauty engages multiple senses simultaneously. Think of a perfectly baked cake that appeals not just to taste, but to sight and smell. Beauty calms us with floral scents and thrills our ears through the passionate sounds of an orchestra.
The Elusive Nature of Beauty
Beauty can be cruel, and our pursuit of her sometimes ends in disappointment. We might attend the opera expecting to be moved, only to leave feeling nothing. Meanwhile, the person beside us might be transported to tears by the very same performance.
We may attempt to capture beauty’s essence in photographs, paintings, or sculptures, yet still find her elusive. Beauty inspires countless works of art, but she chooses carefully which artists truly capture her essence.
Beauty Has No Boundaries
Our personal tastes shape what we find beautiful, but beauty herself knows no limits:
- She lives among both the poor and the rich
- She appears in faces young and old
- She decorates both city skylines and rural landscapes
- She transforms into whatever moves us individually
One person might find profound beauty in a weather-beaten barn while another sees it in a masterfully crafted ship. Beauty is the ultimate shape-shifter, appearing differently to each of us.
Finding Beauty Everywhere
The wonderful truth is that beauty has no bounds. We can find her everywhere if we simply make the choice to look. In our busy lives, we often rush past without noticing, but beauty remainsโpatient, persistent, and always present.
