There’s something about standing on top of a mountain that shifts everything into focus.
I’ve always been drawn to mountains. Maybe it’s the way they command attention from miles away, or how they promise something different—a view, a challenge, a moment of clarity. Whatever it is, getting to the top changes you. Even if just for a moment.
A New Way of Seeing
When you finally reach a summit, the world below shrinks. Cities you thought were massive become tiny clusters of buildings. Roads that felt endless are just thin lines cutting through the landscape. In one sweeping glance, you can see so much more than you ever could from ground level. It’s humbling, really—this reminder of how vast the world actually is, and how small our daily concerns can be in comparison.
Mountains force perspective. They pull us out of our tunnel vision and show us the bigger picture.
Something Sacred
There’s an energy at high altitude that’s hard to describe. The air feels different—cleaner, lighter, almost electric. It’s no wonder mountains have been considered sacred spaces across cultures and throughout history. People have always climbed seeking answers, strength, or connection to something greater than themselves.
I’m not saying a hike will solve all your problems. But when you’re feeling stuck, trapped in the details of everyday life, or unable to see past your immediate circumstances? Getting to higher ground—literally—can work wonders.
Daily Reminders
Not all of us live near mountains. But we can still tap into what they represent. A photograph on your desk, a painting on your wall, or even just the memory of a peak you’ve summered—these can serve as daily anchors. Little reminders that there’s always a higher vantage point available, if we’re willing to climb for it.
Mountains teach us we’re small, but they also show us we’re capable of reaching great heights. Both lessons matter.
So next time you’re feeling overwhelmed or myopic, consider this your invitation. Find a mountain. Climb it. And see what changes when you rise above it all.
